Why I closed my Instagram and Tumblr accounts

You know, photography today is less about photography itself but about promoting yourself and your work. Especially in social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, 500px, Flickr and of course Instagram.

I’m inspired by some german and international posts about this issue. Current state of photography is more or less about producing some specific style and image content, then upload it to the most used social media streams and wait for comments and likes (or like in Russia, just buy instagram likes). You know the style that most of the community loves. Small poeple in astonishing landscapes, portraits with a film look (of course with tattoo’s and so on). Means, photography together tends to be attentive and attractive to the average social media user and less to tell stories or a meaningful statement.

This and of course the problem not to know how to use these channels and a clear target overwhelms me. So i decided to get rid of it and close my accounts to be more focused on photography again. Avoid to think dozens of times about which image to place in which social media channel.

I’m very happy that it’s so easy to close your account at flickr, tumblr and instagram. It feels like leaving dead weight behind you.

But know back to some random shots from the last days…
